ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
HIDDEN LINES begins with a shift in scale.
Working through macro photography and focus stacking, Cesar Cueva investigates naturally formed materials that hold evidence of compressed time. Moving through hundreds of focal planes, the camera becomes a tool for excavation, revealing structures that cannot be encountered from a single point of view.
Fractures, inclusions and growth lines become points of entry. As familiar references begin to dissolve, line, plane, colour, light and void take over. Each shift in focus and light produces a response, allowing composition to emerge through observation, control and chance.
Moving between the minute, the architectural and the geological, HIDDEN LINES asks us to look beyond what something is, toward what its formation might reveal.
A minute field becomes an image.
The image begins to behave like space.
