AUSTRALIAN SAPPHIRES

AN INVESTIGATION INTO COLOUR, CUT, LIGHT & SCALE

ONE STONE.
MANY WAYS OF SEEING.

Australian sapphires are remarkable for their diversity of colour, often revealing several distinct colours within a single gemstone.

Through photography, magnification and changes in light, I investigate the relationship between a gemstone's external geometry and the optical effects occurring within it.

Each stone becomes an individual study of colour, light and composition, revealing details that are not immediately apparent to the naked eye.

GOLDEN PARTITIONS

“This is what draws me to Australian parti sapphires. Within a single stone, colour moves from yellow and amber into green and blue. The precision of the cut creates an extraordinary geometry, but every facet offers a different view. It's this individuality that makes them so compelling to work with.”

AUSTRALIAN PARTI SAPPHIRE

Nine photographic nodes selected from a single Australian parti sapphire.

Through magnification and changes in perspective, the stone reveals intersecting planes, shifting colour and unexpected compositions.

Each node offers a different point of entry into the same gemstone, tracing a progression from amber and yellow through to green and turquoise.
