THRESHOLDS

THRESHOLDS began during the COVID-19 lockdowns, when my studio window became both a physical barrier and a way of observing the world outside.

Using a telephoto lens, I photographed people passing along the street through the glass. Reflections, changing light and the distance between camera and subject transformed familiar figures into blurred compositions of colour and movement.

The series marked a shift in my relationship with photography. Until then, the camera had primarily been used to document my design practice. THRESHOLDS opened up the possibility of using photography as an independent means of investigation, where observation, experimentation and chance could produce unexpected images.

That change in approach would continue to inform the photographic work that followed.
