SAUDADES GRIP

My practice examines how fracture, pattern, and transformation shape both materials and psyches. In Elemento, magnified crystals revealed hidden architectures; in Saudades Grip, I extend this inquiry into colour and spatial perception, responding to the theme Colour & Space.

The series is rooted in liminal spaces, thresholds where presence and absence, solidity and transparency, order and rupture coexist. Taking its name from the Portuguese saudade, a longing marked by loss, these works dissolve fractured grids into chromatic fields. They hold at once memory’s grip and its inevitable slippage, suggesting that continuity often emerges from interruption.

Within my broader practice, Saudades Grip bridges the mineral architectures of Elemento and the destabilised patterning of Unbalanced. It resonates with geometric abstraction, textile traditions, and the melancholic poetics of colour field painting, while reimagining them through the lens of fracture and liminality. In today’s unsettled world, the work speaks to how we inhabit in-between states — not as voids, but as spaces of transition, possibility, and becoming.
