ELEMENTO 2023

ELEMENTO began with an interest in what becomes visible when scale and context are disrupted.

Working through magnification and focus stacking, Cueva explored material at close range, allowing familiar references to give way to abstract fields of form, surface and light.

The work developed through two related investigations. MONOCROMO used magnification to isolate and reveal sculptural structures within the subject. POLICROMA introduced constructed fields of colour, photographed through transparent material so that refraction, distortion and chance became part of the image making process.

Across both bodies, the camera became a means of exploration rather than documentation, a way of entering material, shifting perception and discovering spaces that could not be encountered from a conventional point of view.

Then another substantial amount of white space.
